Adipex Reviews

Randy from California – Many adipex reviews are positive, but not mine, I gained weight quick. I’ve taken Adipex twice in my life and both times I’ve been able to lose some weight using it. I took it the first time four years ago and I lost 14lbs. The problem was that I quickly gained it back after I stopped taking it because you can only use it for three months. Most of the weight that I lost happened in the first six weeks and then it started to feel like the medicine wasn’t that effective anymore. I’m taking it right now for the second time and its still not as effective, I’ve only lost 3lbs in the 2 weeks since I started taking it. I’m going to start looking for something else.

William, Miami, FL – You have to know what to expect when taking Adipex. I found so many Adipex reviews online and decided to give it a try. I took it a couple of years ago and I lost only 12 lbs, but its important to remember that this medication by itself isn’t supposed to make you lose a large amount of weight. Instead it’s supposed to help you exercise and change your diet. The most important thing to remember is that this isn’t a magic substance but rather something that can help you if you lose it right. Don’t expect miracles.

Sharon, Los Angeles, CA – I’ve never liked the side affects from Adipex, I take the instant release Adipex-P and it makes me really angry about the smallest little things. After I red so many positive Adipex reviews online, I started taking it a few weeks ago and I’ve had problems with my husband, my children, and co-workers. I teach at an elementary school and its really hard for me to keep composure in class when the students start becoming disruptive. I think I’m going to have to stop taking it soon.

Linda, Boise, ID – Don’t take Adipex if you want to be able to sleep well at night. Adipex reviews I found on the web do not really say anything about sleep problems. My doctor told me to take 30 mg with half in the morning after breakfast and the other half after lunch. This means that there are 10 hours between when I take it and when I have to go to sleep but still I’ve been having problems with it. I only slept 4 hours last night and 3 hours the night before.

Susan, New York City, NY – I started taking Adipex for the second time two weeks ago and I haven’t lost any weight. I found Adipex reviews that talk about increasing the milligrams in order to make it more effective. I asked the doctor about increasing my dosage and he told me that he gave me the maximum Adipex 37.5 mg dose and that its just not safe to take more. I’m not sure what to do.

How Does Adipex Diet Pill Work?

Adipex is listed as an appetite suppressant and belongs to a class of drugs known as sympathomimetic amines. How Adipex works is not fully understood. It has been suggested that it might decrease your appetite, increase the amount of energy used by the body or by interacting with certain parts of the brain. Chances are Adipex is doing all of these things plus more but only further study will elucidate the full mechanism otherwise the mechanism has been speculated.

Adipex users have reported running into Adipex/Phentermine tolerance. In other words, appetite suppression decreases within a few weeks. However, this does vary from individual to individual but apparently is inevitable. This may shed some light on how Adipex works at least in part.

Phentermine/Adipex stimulates certain neurons to release a group of neurotransmitters called catecholamines. Catecholamines include dopamine, epinephrine and norepinephrine. These neurotransmitters are known to elicit a “fight or flight” response. When you run away from something (flight) or need to confront someone (fight), the last thing you want to do is eat something. So, these neurotransmitters inhibit hunger signals making you less interested in food and hence you lose your appetite. This may also be due to Adipex’s affects on leptin levels in the brain as well. It is thought that Adipex can raise levels of leptin which is a hormone that tells the brain that you are full and don’t eat any more. It is also believed that increased levels of catecholamines inhibit another chemical messenger know as neuropeptide Y. Neuropeptide Y is known to initiate eating while decreasing energy usage and increasing the storage of fat. So, the catecholamines are activating several pathways some of which inhibit the brain and others excite.

Now that we have that under our belts, let’s go back to the tolerance problem. Appetite suppressants essentially cause the release of certain neurotransmitters which essentially moves neurotransmitters from one place to another place, however does nothing to help increase the amount of neurotransmitters in the brain. In a way, Adipex and other drugs like it, fool the brain into thinking there are more neurotransmitters around than there actually are. The brain’s response to this is that the brain makes less neurotransmitter than it should. You are actually depleting your own neurotransmitter stores. Not to fear! It is possible to reverse the depletion of neurotransmitters and get ride of tolerance. A group of researchers have developed a solution to this problem known as amino acid therapy. Most neurotransmitters are made with amino acids so an extra supply of amino acids should initiate neurotransmitter production and return the system back to normal.

What to do if you Adipex Tolerance

The online “virtual consultation” prescription was no longer valid.  Now, you have to have a real physical consultation (in your doctor’s office) to get a prescription for Adipex.  However, you can still buy Adipex online with a prescription.  Websites trying to sell Adipex online without a prescription is illegal.  If you order without a real prescription from your doctor,  the product you buy will be a fake product.

Adipex Vs. Qsymia, What’s The Difference?

The FDA has more recently approved Qsymia (a branded drug) as a weight loss medication for individuals who are struggling with obesity. Qsymia contains two drugs one of which is phentermine and the other is topiramate.

Qsymia is made by the pharmaceutical company Vivus, Inc. and was formerly known as Qnexa. Adipex is a branded drug that is made by Gate Pharmaceuticals and contains Phentermine hydrochloride only. Adipex is also a weight loss medication. Both Qsymia and Adipex require a prescription.

Phentermine as an appetite suppressant is thought to activate a release of a class of neurotransmitters known as catecholamines which include dopamine, epinephrine and norepinephrine. The catecholamines are also known to increase blood concentrations of leptin which is a hormone that tells the brain you are full which suppresses your appetite. On the other hand, Topiramate (Topamax) is an anticonvulsant and migraine drug which also acts as a weight loss medication by making you feel full which also suppresses appetite. It also can make foods taste less appealing and increase metabolism thereby burning more calories.

Besides the obvious difference in Adipex ad Qsymia in that Adipex contains only Phentermine and Qsymia contains Phentermine and Topiramate, these two prescription drugs have different phentermine concentrations. Adipex comes in 37.5 mg caps that contain 31 mg of phentermine. Qsymia contains 3.75 mg of phentermine and 23 mg of topiramate. Other Qsymia caps come in 7.5 mg/46 mg, 11.25 mg/69 mg and 15mg/92 mg options (Phentermine to Topiramate).

A clinical trial in 2014 that ran for 56 weeks, found that Qsymia helped patients lose 10 percent of their weight (24 pounds) on average. Researchers found that dosage greatly affected the amount of weight loss and that the highest dosages gave twice the amount of weight loss.

As you can see, Qsymia can be used long term. On the other hand, Adipex (designed to be used short term, 3 to 5 weeks) produces a 3.5 percent weight loss according to Adipex clinical trials. Looks like Qsymia wins out on most pounds lost on the average.

Now, if you look at these two drugs from a cost perspective, it looks like Adipex wins out by far.

According to WebMD, a one month supply of Qsymia runs about $135, whereas Adipex runs about $59 for one month.

So, it looks like Adipex is more than two times cheaper but then consider you would only take it for 2 months or less whereas you would be on Qsymia for over a year.

That really adds up. Another issue with Qsymia is that it has more side effects and in particular depression and suicidal thoughts independent of the dosage used. Qsymia may also produce acute myopia that comes with individuals who have secondary angle closure glaucoma.

Clearly Adipex doesn’t have these side effects to contend with. The major side effect of Adipex is insomnia, however that is why it is recommended to take it in the morning which essentially takes care of the insomnia issue.
