Do knee raises, in standing position, raise your left leg while bending your knee as high as you can 5 times. Return leg to the floor and repeat this action on your right leg. Do 10 repetitions for both sides.

Do leg raises, lie down on the floor, arms flat on floor with palms down slightly away from the body. Raise your left leg straight upward keeping your left knee straight, do this 5 times. Lower your left leg to the floor and repeat this action on the right leg.

You can buy this at the store but it is much better homemade and less expensive. And, it so easy to do. Tahini is simply sesame seeds toasted and ground with olive oil. That’s it.

To Make Tahini (makes 3/4 tahini paste):

  • 1 cup sesame seeds
  • 3 tbsp organic olive oil (may need up to 1/3 cup)


  1. over medium high heat toast sesame seeds (no oil, nothing)
  2. stir frequently until brown (golden), don’t burn
  3. cool for about 10 minutes
  4. add to blender and add olive oil, as you blend check for consistency, may need to add more olive oil for the thickness you want, can make it somewhat pourable or thicker
  5. place paste in a jar and store in refrigerator (keeps for several months)

Now that you have the tahini paste it’s time to make the salad. This salad is made with broccoli and gogi berries and the dressing will be creamy. This is a vegan salad. Can be served warm or cold.

Broccoli and Goji Berry Salad With Tahini, Serves 4, Ingredients:

  • 2 broccoli heads with stems, cut up
  • ½ red onion, chopped
  • ½ cup gogi berries
  • ½ cup pumpkin seeds (optional)

  • 1\2 cup tahini paste
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • ¼ cup nutritional yeast
  • ¼ tsp paprika
  • ¼ tsp mustard powder, can use brown mustard and horseradish (¼ cup)
  • ¼ tsp turmeric
  • 2 tbsp cider vinegar, can use apple vinegar or even balsamic
  • 4 tbsp organic olive oil
  • water to create desired thickness


  • steam broccoli till tender crisp, rinse in ice bath to stop cooking
  • make dressing – put garlic in blender to mince, then tahini, yeast, paprika, mustard, turmeric, cider vinegar and olive oil. Blend until smooth and creamy. Should be somewhat thick. If too thick add 1 tsp of water at a time till you get the consistency you want.
  • In a large bowl, mix broccoli and onions. Toss with dressing and top with gogi berries and pumpkin seeds if you have them. Serve warm or cold.

Serves 4-6:

  • Buy 1 large (or two small) kohlrabi (use bulb only, peel and grate like cabbage)
  • 1 small red cabbage grated
  • 1 or 2 medium carrots, can leave peel on if cleaned properly and grate
  • small red onion or 6 leaks chopped
  • ¼ cup cilantro chopped
  • ¼ cup craisins or raisins (can also use mandarin oranges)


  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp cider vinegar or juice and zest of 1 lemon or lime
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard or brown mustard with horseradish
  • 3/4 cup organic olive oil


Combine all veggies and fruits together in a large bowl. To prepare the dressing, whisk sugar, vinegar or lemon, mustard and olive oil. Pour dressing over salad and toss until coated well. This is best if served cold so store in the refrigerator for a couple of hours before serving.

He went into the house and got a piece of chalk. Then, he divided the drive way into 6 areas all approximately equal to each other. Then, he said, “I want you to sweep the first section and see how long it takes and write it down. Rest a few minutes. Do the next section, rest and then the third section. When you get that done we will take a really big break and have some pop corn and homemade lemonade. Then you can do the other three the way you did the first three. Looking back at my notes, I saw that it took 10 minutes per section for a total of 60 minutes. That wasn’t bad at all. This brought my thinking away from the entire drive way into manageable parts.

​I learned a lot that day. I got to play with my friends early that afternoon plus I had a wonderful treat. Take home message, establish short term goals but of course they have to be based on your long term goal (bigger picture of things). This is important and it really, really works.

Your Emotions and Food – Nothing wrong with eating but if you’re using eating as a mechanism for coping when you’re stressed, this will destroy your goals quickly. This in turn will make it easier for you to stick to your goals because your body is functioning properly. You will feel energized and clear thinking which helps you to maintain control.

Quick Fixes – We all get hung up on quick fixes. How many times have you seen TV exercises that take 10 minutes and this is all you need three times a week. There is really no quick fix.
